41st EPS Conference on Plasma Physics
The 41st EPS Conference continued the series of plasma physics conferences organized by the European Physical Society covering the wide field from nuclear fusion research to the low temperature plasmas, as well as space and astrophysical plasmas.
Venue of the 41st EPS conference was the Berlin Congress Center (bcc), located right at the famous Alexanderplatz in the center of the City of Berlin. In Berlin 649 participants, amongst them 133 students, contributed to the conference with 768 paper submissions.
Proceedings
The proceedings, namely the 4-page papers related to contributed orals and posters, are available via http://ocs.ciemat.es/EPS2014PAP/html/.
Contributions from invited speakers were published in volume 57 of Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion.
Prizes and Awards
The Hannes Alfvén Prize of the European Physical Society for Outstanding Contributions to Plasma Physics was awarded to Patrick Mora (École Polytechnique, France) for decisive results in the field of laser-produced plasma physics, in particular for illuminating descriptions of laser light absorption in plasmas, electron heat transport in steep temperature gradients and plasma expansion dynamics into vacuum.
The Innovation Award of the Plasma Physics Division of the European Physical Society was given to Dr. Christoph Hollenstein (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland).
The PhD Research Award 2014 of the Plasma Physics Division of the European Physical Society was awarded Edmund Highcock, (Oxford University, UK) for his PhD thesis on “The zero turbulence manifold of fusion plasmas”.
The EPS/PPCF poster prizes went to Livia Casali (IPP Garching, Germany), Himank Anand (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland ), Alexandra Vallet (Centre Laser Intenses et Applications (CELIA) laboratory, University of Bordeaux-I, France ) and Brendan Kettle (Queens University Belfast, UK).
The winners of the 2014 Landau-Spitzer Award on the Physics of Plasmas for “Outstanding contributions to plasma physics”, jointly sponsored by the Plasma Physics Divisions of the American Physical Society and the European Physical Society, were: Dr. Manuel Garcia-Munoz (University of Seville, Spain), Dr. Benedikt Geiger (Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik, Germany), Dr. David C. Pace (General Atomics, USA) and Dr. Michael A. Van Zeeland (General Atomics, USA) for the “greater understanding of energetic particle transport in tokamaks through collaborative research”.
The 10th Itoh Project Prize was given to Zhouji Huang (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland) for his "Investigation of plasma turbulence and geodesic acoustic modes using tangential phase-contrast imaging in the TCV tokamak"
