Address: Hafenstraße 11, D-18439 Stralsund

German Oceanographic Museum – explore the oceans in a museum. The sea has fascinated humans ever since. The German Oceanographic Museum Foundation has committed itself to making this fascination come alive. Four museum locations let the visitor experience completely different underwater worlds. An underwater journey through the northern seas – unique in Europe.

OZEANEUM on Stralsund’s harbour island is the fourth and newest museum location of the German Oceanographic Museum. Since July 2008, visitors are invited to go on an exciting underwater journey through exhibitions and aquaria. Its spectacular exterior design and architecture with a facade of up to 12-metre-high curved plates of white ship steel makes people want to explore the building’s interior as well. Inside, visitors can see the world’s biggest whale exhibition with life-size models of those giants of the sea.

At OZEANEUM, marine sciences meet spectacular aquaria. This successful concept was acknowledged with the “European Museum of the Year 2010” award.
