Job offer from February 07, 2018

The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) offers an opportunity to participate in a postdoctorate program to perform research activities in the division Tokamak Scenario Development at the tokamak ASDEX Upgrade and the stellarator Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) fusion experiments. We look for a postdoctoral researcher in Experimental Physics to perform measurements and to investigate sawtooth instabilities at both experiments.

The position

Currently we evaluate and analyse data from Soft-X-Ray diagnostics with a tomography reconstruction code at ASDEX Upgrade which shall be made available at W7-X, too. In addition to immediate comparison of the observations made in the tokamak and the stellarator the experimental data shall also be compared to theoretical predictions.

Good general knowledge of plasma, tokamak and stellarator physics, a particular expertise in tomographic code and good English skills are a prerequisite. Highly advantageous will be experience in the operation of SXR diagnostics and in programming with Python. An interest to work in a scientific environment, a willingness to cooperate with an international team and the ability to present complex scientific and technical matters is expected. Activities will be performed at IPP sites in Garching and Greifswald with equal shares.
