The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) offers an opportunity to participate in a postdoctorate program to perform research activities in the division Plasma Edge and Wall at the tokamak ASDEX Upgrade and the stellarator Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) fusion experiments. We look for a postdoctoral researcher in Experimental Physics / Plasma Spectroscopy to further develop spectroscopic diagnostics at ASDEX Upgrade and Wendelstein 7-X to improve plasma control with real-time information on impurities, effective ion charge, ion temperature and plasma rotation.

Your profile

The candidate should have successfully finished a doctorate in experimental physics within the last two years, should have good general knowledge of plasma, tokamak or stellarator physics, a particular expertise in the development and operation of spectroscopic diagnostics for fusion plasmas, and experience in the real-time control of CCD cameras. Good English skills are also a prerequisite. Understanding of data processing, data acquisition, and data analysis will be highly advantagous.

An interest to work in a scientific environment, a willingness to cooperate with an international team, and the ability to present complex scientific and technical matters is expected. Activities will be performed in equal parts at the IPP sites in Garching and Greifswald.

Our offer

The position is limited to a period of two years. The salary is according to the collective wage agreement for the public service (TVöD Bund), pay level 13.
