Prof. Dr. Hans-Stephan Bosch

Head of Wendelstein 7-X Operations Division

Hans-Stephan Bosch, born 1957 in Stuttgart, studied physics at the universities of Münster and Munich. Having taken his PhD at the Technical University of Munich on a research subject concerning IPP’s ASDEX tokamak and postdoctoral research studies at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory in Princeton, USA, he qualified for postdoctoral lectureship in 2000 at Berlin Humboldt University.

Since 1988 he has been a scientific officer at IPP, working first on the ASDEX tokamak, where he was concerned with neutron diagnostics, then as of 1990 on ASDEX Upgrade, its successor experiment. Here he also dealt with boundary layer diagnostics and modelling as well as helium removal. As of 2000 he headed IPP’s Director’s Office at Garching. In 2004 he was transferred to Greifswald as head of project coordination for Wendelstein 7-X. In 2013 he then became head of IPP’s Wendelstein 7-X Operation division. Having been an external lecturer at the University of Greifswald since 2008, he was appointed in 2016 by the Technical University of Berlin as Honorary Professor in experimental physics.
