Stellarator Edge and Divertor Physics

The experimental division "Stellarator Edge and Divertor Physics" at IPP Greifswald investigates – in close collaboration with the divisions for Stellarator Scenario Development, Stellarator Optimisation and Stellarator Theory – the capability of the stellarator concept for a fusion power plant.
The new division will be concerned with the important edge region of the plasma of the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, now under construction at IPP Greifswald: This region separates the hot plasma core from the cooler vessel wall. Interaction with locations where the plasma comes into contact with the wall is controlled with magnetic fields and specially equipped wall areas, the so-called divertor.
