Opportunities for ASDEX Upgrade Collaborations

The overall goal of the ASDEX Upgrade Programme is to establish the scientific basis for the optimisation of the tokamak approach to fusion energy and especially to prepare the next steps: ITER & DEMO.

As in previous years IPP Garching invites for the coming 2012 experimental phase scientists in particular from European Associations but also from other international fusion labs to lead and manage elements of the Programme (submission of experimental proposals), analyse data, provide theory and modelling and report and publish results.

The Call for Participation in the 2012 ASDEX Upgrade Programme is asking for proposals for experiments in 2012. All topics are welcome and will be assessed on the basis of their scientific contribution to the AUG Task Forces and technical feasibility.

The ASDEX Upgrade Programme is organised by five Task Forces:

TF Title Leader Association /
IPP division
I Improvement of H-mode and integrated scenarios J. Hobirk IPP / E1
II Pedestal physics including tolerable ELMs T. Pütterich IPP / E2
III SOL & Divertor physics and first wall materials H.W. Müller IPP / E2
IV MHD instabilities and their active control R. Koslowski FZ-Jülich
V Transport C. Angioni IPP / TOK

The Task Force leaders are the main actors in the process of preparation and execution of the prorgamme. The discussion and implementation of external experimental proposals is an important part of the overall programme planning process. Submission of proposals is possible throughout the year, but mainly done as a response to the Call for Participation. Based on all proposals compiled by the Task Force leaders the international ASDEX Upgrade Programme Committee (AUG-PC) decides at the end of a year on the programme of the coming experimental campaign.
