The magnet system of Wendelstein 7-X has a five-fold symmetry with 10 non-planar coils shown in blue in each of these five modules. As it is common to all stellarators a module is inversion symmetric in itself such that only 5 different types of coils exist. This modularity also yields flexibility during assembly. Additional 20 planar coils shown in light blue are not required for confinement and would be absent in a rector. They allow to modify the magnetic field structure in the course of the experiments.
