Cooperations

The research conducted at IPP is part of the European fusion programme: The ASDEX Upgrade tokamak and the stellarator concept of the WENDELSTEIN experiments provide essential information for preparing the next steps in the overall European programme. In this context IPP is also involved in JET, the joint European experiment.

On the national level, IPP coordinates its research effort with the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe and the Forschungszentrum Jülich within the "Entwicklungsgemeinschaft Kernfusion". IPP also closely cooperates with a number of German universities.

On the European level numerous cooperation contracts connect IPP with UKAEA-Culham; CEA-Cadarache; CIEMAT-Madrid; Cork University-Ireland; CRPP-Lausanne; DEMOKRITOS-Athens; Institute of Particle and Nuclear Physics-Budapest; IST-Lisbon; Alvfen Laboratory-Stockholm; RISØ-Roskilde; Helsinki University of Technology; Institute for Plasma Physics-Mailand; University Marseille; Atomic Institute fo the Austrian Universities-Vienna; Graz University; National Institute for Laser Plasma and Radiation Physics-Bukarest; IAP-Nizhni Novgorod; Kurchatov-Institute - Moskau; Joffe-Institute - St. Petersburg; Technical University - St. Petersburg; Physical-Technical Institute - Kharkov; Politechnika Warszawska - Warschau; Institute of Plasma Physics and Laser Microfusion - Warschau; Akademia Morska - Szczecin; Szczecin University of Technology, Poland.

Coordination of research is also world-wide in extent. IPP is party to two Implementing Agreements under the umbrella of the International Energy Agency (IEA) covering cooperation with fusion research centres in USA and Japan: Courant Institute-New York; General Atomic-San Diego; MIT-Boston; ORNL-Oak Ridge; PPPL-Princeton; University of Texas-Austin; University of Berkeley - California; National Institute for Fusion Science-Nagoya; University of Nagoya; IPP Kyoto.

Furthermore, IPP hosts the European Fusion Development Agreement ( EFDA) Close Support Unit and from 1988 to 2006 provided the technical site for designing ITER, the International Experimental Reactor.
