Construction of a nuclear fusion experiment

How is a fusion device made? The film traces the final assembly of the ASDEX Upgrade experiment, at present Germany’s largest fusion device, which went into operation at Garching in 1991. Featured are the design principles of ASDEX Upgrade, successive assembly of the device from its individual components (plasma vessel, magnet coils, and support structure), and the first plasma experiments.
