In the  ASDEX Upgrade fusion experiment at IPP Garching, the physics of magnetically confined hot plasmas is studied with the ultimate goal of producing energy from fusion reactions.

Research projects:

  • Physics of the formation of an edge transport barrier (H-mode = high-confinement mode)
  • Physics and mitigation of Edge Localised Modes (ELMs)
  • Physics of ELM-free H-mode regimes
  • Transport studies in H-mode plasmas
  • Plasma Diagnostics by microwave radiometry of Electron Cyclotron Emission (ECE)
  • Diagnostics of plasma rotation by microwave Doppler reflectometry
  • Fast data acquisition systems for plasma diagnostics.
  • MDSplus for Remote Data Access.
