Fusion research in Europe

European fusion research is organised as a network comprising the fusion centres of the European Union,  Switzerland and Ukraine.

Core issues of the European Fusion Programme are:

  • via the consortium EuroFusion: coordinated physics and technology research and development in the member institutions of the European Fusion Program, also involving European industry
  • the collective use of the joint European JET facility
  • the international test reactor ITER. European contributions to ITER are coordinated by the "European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy" ("Fusion for Energy",  European Domestic Agency for ITER) in Barcelona, Spain
  • development of a demonstration reactor (DEMO)
