Hybrid gyrokinetic computations

Turbulent heating and transport in weakly magnetised plasmas
(Helmholtz junior scientists group)

The junior scientists group „Hybrid gyrokinetic computations for weakly magnetised plasmas in nature and the laboratory” was established in 2017 with financial support of the Helmholtz Association.

The aim is to investigate turbulent heating and transport in weakly magnetised plasmas. Such plasmas occur in the edge region of fusion experiments as well as in the solar wind.

They are characterised by both low and high frequency turbulence and steep pressure gradients. To study turbulence in this kind of environment, the first grid-based simulation code to use a combination of fully kinetic ions and gyrokinetic electrons will be developed.
