The 3D scrape off layer plasma code EMC3-eirene was recently augmented
by a new “kinetic” trace impurity transport model that takes the inertia
of the impurities into account and is thus better suited for heavy
impurities like W than the original impurity transport module. To test
the new “kinetic” a code/code benchmark with DIVIMP, which includes the
same physics, was performed. This presentation will first introduce the
kinetic impurity transport model, then outline the differences between
EM3 and DIVIMP and finally show the comparison of Be and W transport
calculated for a selected toroidally symmetric ITER background plasma
case that could be handled by both codes.
