The growing demand for ammonia (NH3), whether to be used in fertilizers,
in the chemical industry or as a hydrogen storage medium, drives the
need for production methods compatible with an electrified energy
system. Plasma-catalysis offers a promising
alternative to the traditional Haber-Bosch process, with potential for
decentralization and renewable energy integration. The current
understanding of the mechanistic pathways is still limited, thus
requiring the need to use diagnostics to understand both
the plasma and the surface. In this talk a brief overview of the
formation/destruction mechanisms of NH3 will be given followed by a
detailed discussion on how IPP can contribute to further the current
understanding.
