The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching offers within the division 'Numerical Methods of Plasma Physics' (NMPP) 2 or 3 postdoc positions for computational scientists (m/f/d).
The NMPP division is contributing to the development of geometric gyrokinetic Particle-In-Cell Codes based on structure preserving Finite Element methods for the field solvers. The codes target very large High Performance Computers and are written in C++ and/or Fortran. You will be involved in the development of one of these codes both from the implementation and algorithmic viewpoints.
Your tasks
- Contribution to the development and optimization of a gyrokinetic PIC code.
- Derivation and implementation of new structure preserving numerical methods
- Publication and communication of scientific results
- Participation in the general tasks of the division
Your profile
- PhD in mathematics, physics, computational science and engineering or a related discipline
- Experience in the development and implementation of numerical algorithms for partial differential equations
- Good programming skills in particular in C++ and/or Fortran
- Fluent in English language spoken and written
- Knowledge of structure preserving numerical methods and Particle-In-Cell algorithms is a plus
