The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics as an institute of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (registered association) is the largest centre for fusion research in Europe with about 1100 employees in Garching near Munich and Greifswald. The scientists are investigating the physical principles for a fusion power plant which - like the sun - generates energy from the fusion of light atomic nuclei. The research is carried out in seven experimental and theoretical projects aimed at developing nuclear fusion into an inexhaustible and safe source of energy for the future.

The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching in Garching is coordinator of the European Joint Programme "EUROfusion" and is looking for a Project Controller (m/f/d) working in the Coordinator Unit within IPP’s Third Party Funding and Project Support department.

Your tasks

  • Annual budget planning and project controlling for the EUROfusion programme in close cooperation with the consortium's Programme Management Unit (PMU)
  • Carrying out variance analyses and analysing deviations from the budget plan
  • Calculation of the annual distribution of the acquired funding according to the internal rules of the consortium
  • Advising the consortium partners on the administrative and financial management of the project, based on the regulations of the grant agreement and the consortium contract
  • Preparation of contract amendments
  • Preparation of reports and evaluations within the framework of the provisions of the grant agreement and on a case-by-case basis as required (e.g. in preparation for the General Assembly)
  • Continuous reporting to committees, preparation of ad-hoc reports
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of business processes

Your profile

  • Completed academic studies with a focus on business administration. University degree in economics (Diploma, Master or similar) with a focus on controlling
  • Sound knowledge in project and investment controlling as well as cost and performance accounting
  • Knowledge of the funding conditions of European Framework Programme 9 (“Horizon Europe”)
  • Very good user knowledge of MS Office applications, especially MS Excel
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken German and English (working language is English)
  • Strong ability to work independently
  • Social competence, negotiating skills and assertiveness

The position is limited to a duration of two years. An extension is being pursued. The salary is based on the assignment of tasks and qualifications and goes up to pay group 13 according to the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund).
