How large will a fusion power plant be?

With 1 to 1.5 gigawatt of electric power a future fusion power plant will supply a power similar to that of present-day large-scale power stations, whether coal or fission plants. The respective buildings are also of comparable size.

There are, however, differences in the amount of fuel needed: One gramme of fusion fuel could provide 90,000 kilowatt-hours of energy in a power plant, i.e. the combustion heat of 11 tons of coal.
