Regensburg
Regensburg is widely regarded as the best-preserved medieval city in Germany. Founded in 179 AD as Castra Regina, a Roman military encampment, Regensburg developed into a prosperous trading metropolis during the Middle Ages. It's Old Town Hall served as the seat of the "Perpetual Reichstag" from 1663 to 1806, making the city a key political centre of the Holy Roman Empire.
Today, Regensburg offers a unique combination of historical depth and vibrant urban life. Landmarks such as the Gothic St. Peter's Cathedral, the 12th-century Stone Bridge, and the striking historical patrician towers, the "Geschlechtertürme" shape the cityscape as distinctly as the Danube itself.
Marinaforum Regensburg
The marinaforum Regensburg is a modern conference and congress centre located in the heart of the Marina Quarter, a 15-minute walk, alternatively by bus, from the historic center of the city. The history of the location goes back to the time of industrialisation. The building was constructed in 1888 and converted into a modern conference centre as part of the redevelopment of the Marina Quarter. The lavishly restored ‘Zollinger ceiling’ from 1927, which was developed by architect Friedrich Zollinger (1880-1945), creates a special atmosphere.
It was built on the site of the former abattoir and the foundation stone was laid on
12 November 2015. The opening took place in April 2018 and the building was designed in an industrial style with Victorian elements.
The marinaforum offers around 4,600 square metres of modern, comfortable and barrier-free space for events of all kinds. It is an architectural highlight in the Marina Quarter and an enrichment for the city of Regensburg and the region.
