Travel

The most convenient way to get from the airport to the IPP is by public transportation. First, take the S8 train to Ismaning station. From there, transfer to bus 230 heading towards 'Forschungszentrum' and after a short ride, arrive at the 'Garching Forschungszentrum' stop.

Alternatively, you can take the S1 train to Neufahrn. From Neufahrn, transfer to bus 690 heading towards 'Forschungszentrum' and reach the 'Forschungszentrum' stop directly.

Accommodation

Garching bei München offers excellent infrastructure and convenient public transport connections. The underground line U6 provides direct access both to the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (one stop to the terminus Garching-Forschungszentrum, with the exit located directly in front of the IPP main gate) and to Munich city centre (U6 to Marienplatz, approximately 22 minutes).

Participants are kindly requested to arrange their own accommodation and cover the associated costs. Reservations can be made online or by telephone. A list of hotels in Garching is available on the meeting’s overview page.

As the Stellaris Apartment Hotel is located directly next to the institute campus, we particularly recommend booking this hotel. When making your reservation, please mention that you are attending an event at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics; you will then receive special rates.

Several other hotels in Garching are situated near the town centre, with a few located in the Garching-Hochbrück business area. The IPP site can be reached easily from both areas via the U6. 

Hotels in Munich are also suitable; however, it is advisable to choose accommodation near a U6 station to ensure a convenient direct connection to the meeting venue.

As availability may be limited during trade fairs, early booking is strongly recommended.
