Dr. Rachael M. McDermott

Head of Physics of the Plasma Edge Division

 

Rachael M. McDermott, born in 1981 in New Hampshire, USA, studied physics at Saint Louis University, Missouri, and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she received her PhD in plasma physics and fusion technology in 2009. She then accepted a post doctoral position at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) in Garching near Munich. In 2013, she took over the leadership of a Helmholtz Young Investigators Group there with the topic Macroscopic Effects of Microturbulence in Fusion Plasmas. From 2022, she headed the "Active Spectroscopy Group" at IPP.

 

 

Since February 2023, Rachael M. McDermott has been a Scientific Member of the Max Planck Society and head of the Physics of the Plasma Edge department (E2) at IPP in Garching.
