Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Kurt Behringer

Emeritus Scientific Member

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Kurt Behringer was born in 1942 in Munich. He studied physics at the Technical University of Munich, where he took his PhD in 1971. From 1972 till 1973 Behringer did research at the American National Bureau of Standards in Washington. He qualified for lectureship in 1977 at the Technical University of Munich. From 1983 he served as Spectroscopy Group Head at the JET Joint Undertaking fusion experiment at Culham, UK. From 1989 till 1993 he was Professor at the University of Stuttgart, where he occupied the position of Deputy Institute Head at the Institute for Plasma Research from 1991. He has held the Chair of Experimental Plasma Physics at the University of Augsburg since 1994. A year later he was appointed Member of the Scientific Board and Head of Experimental Plasma Physics Division 4 at Max-Planck-Institute of Plasma Physics. Behringer is also a Consortium Member of the Atomic Data and Analysis Structure (ADAS) data bank. He retired in 2007.
