What will fusion power cost?

The cost of a future fusion power plant can today only be estimated with a great degree of uncertainty. Calculations are based on detailed power plant models. In Europe work in the last few years was compiled in the PPCS power plant study, in the USA in the ARIES studies.

The results yielded power plant costs that led to values of between 5 and 8 cents per kilowatt-hour for a device availability of 70 to 75 per cent and an annuity (i.e. the annual payment of interest and repayment of investment costs) of 10 per cent.
