For the Career Dialogue we invite people with different backgrounds who will initially tell about themselves, their career or their networks and will then answer your questions and engage in a dialogue with you. The purpose of the Career Dialogue is to provide insight into different career paths, to bring you in contact with people outside IPP and to enhance our networks in all directions - science, industry, entrepreneurship, science management.
Daniel Carralero completed his PhD in the Laboratorio Nacional de Fusión in CIEMAT in 2012. After this, he was hired as postdoc in IPP Garching, where he eventually became responsible officer for the probe systems of ASDEX-Upgrade. In 2017, he returned to CIEMAT as part of the team in charge of the scientific exploitation of the Doppler reflectometer systems in Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X). During his whole trajectory he has focused on the study of turbulent transport, both in tokamaks - where he pioneered the investigation on the SOL transport transition known as "shoulder formation"- and stellarators - where he played a key role in the characterisation of core turbulence in W7-X, including the first experimental observation of Zonal Flows in an optimized stellarator. He has published over a 100 papers, placing a strong emphasis on a multidisciplinar, international approach, involving multimachine studies and experimental validation of theoretical models. As well, he has become increasingly involved in scientific coordination activities, first as Stellerator Representative in the ITPA and Core Transport Chair in the CWGM, then as W7-X Task Force Leader for the OP 2.1 - OP 2.3 experimental campaigns and more recently, as Deputy Project Leader for the Work Package STEL of EUROfusion.
