Information on latest results around the ASDEX Upgrade device fusion device

June 10, 2013

Recent developments and latest results around the ASDEX Upgrade device, Germany’s largest tokamak, are published in the ASDEX Upgrade Letter. Scientists from all over Europe are conducting experiments on ASDEX Upgrade.

The new issue reports on understanding of the physics relevant to an advantageous plasma state, the High Confinement Regime, which will be used by ITER and by a future fusion power plant; on studies shedding light on the reasons why tokamak plasmas spin in the absence of external torque – an intriguing puzzle for decades – as well as on new diagnostic devices, which the Dutch DIFFER Institute (Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research) has developed and installed on ASDEX Upgrade.
