Information on the construction of the Wendelstein 7-X fusion device

The Wendelstein 7-X Newsletter reports recent developments relating to the Wendelstein 7-X fusion experiment. Issue 7/2011 reviews the present assembly status.

The main focus is on the installation of the ports linking the outer vessel of the device with the plasma vessel. More than half of the ports are in place on schedule. The components, weighing up to a tonne, have to be adjusted with millimetre precision and then brazed – a major technical challenge.
