Hannover Trade Fair: IPP presents the Wendelstein 7-X fusion device

“New Energies” joint presentation of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

April 07, 2003
The Greifswald branch of Max Planck Institute of Plasma Physics (IPP) is featured from 7 to 12 April at Hannover Trade Fair 2003 in the “New Energies” joint stall of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern together with 13 other facilities from science and industry (Hall 13, Stall A 34).

At Greifswald the world’s largest and most modern fusion device of the stellarator type is now being built: Wendelstein 7-X. The experiment is to investigate whether stellarators are suitable for power plants. The technical core element is a system of 50 specially shaped superconducting magnet coils. A half-size model of one of these 3-metre-high coils is on display in the IPP section.
