Weisbart/ J. Blanco Acebes Blower gun operation cycle:The blower gun was previously used for ELM pacing in ASDEX Upgrade. Previous operation cycle of the blower gun Step 1: The deuterium ice rod is extruded in the extrusion cryostat. The ice rod is stored in a storage cryostat. Pellet 1 is cut by the moving shuttle from the ice rod (see picture below). The ice rod is fed into a step hole which defines the length of the pellet. The step motor moves the ice rod 0,5 mm per step while feeding. Step 1: The deuterium ice rod is extruded in the extrusion cryostat. The ice rod is stored in a storage cryostat. Pellet 1 is then accelerated by a gas pulse. Step 2: Pellet 1 is shifted into the shot position. Meanwhile, pellet 2 is put into the shuttle. Pellet 1 is then accelerated by a gas pulse. Step 3: Pellet 2 is shifted to the second shot position and accelerated by a gas pulse. Step 3: Pellet 2 is shifted to the second shot position and accelerated by a gas pulse.
