New Issue of ASDEX Upgrade Newsletter

Information about research with the ASDEX Upgrade fusion device

May 06, 2014

ASDEX Upgrade Newsletter deals with present developments and research results from the ASDEX Upgrade fusion device, Germany’s biggest tokamak, on which scientists from the whole of Europe are working.

The latest issue 14/2014 is mainly concerned with ASDEX Upgrade’s new role in the Medium-sized Tokamaks campaign of the European Fusion Programme, which will bring to Garching about 200 scientists from all over Europe to do research on the experiment. It also deals with the conversion work on ASDEX Upgrade in the past year. This involved reinforcing the wall cladding of the plasma vessel at particularly stressed locations. With ASDEX Upgrade it is now possible to pursue experimentation under conditions similar to those that will prevail in the ITER international test reactor. The newly installed divertor manipulator has already been used to induce local melting of a divertor plate and thus gain important results for ITER.
