In recognition of his outstanding contributions in physics IPP scientist Professor Dr. Hartmut Zohm has been elected Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS). With this distinction his colleagues in the Plasma Physics Section of APS are honouring in particular “his fundamental contributions to the understanding and control of magnetohydrodynamic instabilities, the application of electron cyclotron heating and current drive systems on tokamaks”, states the Fellowship Certificate, and “the development of integrated DEMO operating scenarios and for programmatic leadership in fusion research“. The certificate is to be presented at the beginning of November at the APS Plasma Physics Conference in San Jose/USA.

The objective of the American Physical Society is to extend physical knowledge, support physicists world-wide, and promote international cooperation. The venerable society, domiciled at College Park in Maryland, USA, was established in 1899 and has a present membership of more than 50,000.

Hartmut Zohm is Scientific Member of the Max Planck Society and head of the Tokamak Scenario Development division of Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics at Garching.
