Job Offer: NINS Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Theoretical and computational research in plasma physics for astrophysics or fusion science

December 01, 2020

The International Research Collaboration Center advertises a postdoctoral or more senior researcher position to conduct research in collaboration between the National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS) in Japan and the participating Max Planck Institutes for Plasma Physics, Astrophysics and Solar System Research.

Max-Planck-Princeton Research Center for Plasma Physics (MPPC), established in 2012, is a framework for collaboration between the Max Planck Institutes for Plasma Physics, Astrophysics and Solar System Research, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and Princeton University.

In 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding was issued between MPPC and the National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS) in Japan. As a result, NINS established the International Research Collaboration Center (IRCC) to promote international collaborative research in plasma physics on topics of interest in astrophysics and fusion science.

Within this framework, IRCC now advertises a postdoctoral or more senior researcher position to conduct research in collaboration between NINS and the participating Max Planck Institutes.

The candidate will be hired by NINS but will spend most of his/her time working at the German partner institutions on theoretical and/or computational research in plasma physics, astrophysics and fusion science. The applicant may select the research area from the topics shown below (either by particle or MHD simulations): plasma transport physics including plasma turbulence, magnetic reconnection physics, physics of high energy particles and acceleration in plasmas, MHD instabilities and self-organization (formation of plasma flows), plasma physics related to magnetic configuration study of fusion research and other basic common plasma physics topics for astrophysics and fusion science.
