Wendelstein 7-X produces first hydrogen plasma

Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel has been asked to switch on the first hydrogen plasma on 3 February 2016 at a ceremony attended by numerous guests from the realms of science and politics. This marked the start of scientific operation of Wendelstein 7-X.
This the world’s largest and most modern fusion device of the stellarator type has already been working since the beginning of December 2015 with a helium plasma as preparation for the first hydrogen plasma. The objective of fusion research is to derive energy from fusion of atomic nuclei just as the sun does. Here the recording of the event, which was transmitted per livestream.
