Modular Fusion - Theory and Practice

Abstract: Some rather elementary considerations make a compelling case for modular fusion plants based on high field Spherical Tokamaks. Tokamak Energy is conducting a two pronged programme to study the behavior of high field STs using the small copper-coil device ST40 (2MA/3T) and to develop high field High Temperature Superconducting magnets. This talk will describe the status of these programme activities and of a conceptual design study for a demonstration device that brings both programmes together.
